Mission: The ANCO Advocacy Committee is dedicated to advancing the organization’s mission by actively engaging in legislative and policy initiatives that impact cancer care. We strive to be a proactive voice, advocating for policies that promote positive change and benefit the communities we serve.

Purpose:

  • To identify and analyze relevant local, state, and federal legislation and policy proposals.
  • To develop and implement advocacy strategies that align with ANCO’s strategic priorities.
  • To collaborate with our legislative advocate to effectively communicate ANCO’s positions to policymakers and stakeholders.
  • To educate and mobilize ANCO members and the broader community on key advocacy issues.
  • To build and strengthen relationships with elected officials, government agencies, and partner organizations.

Activities:

  • Quarterly meetings (1 hour) with our legislative advocate to review current legislative developments, discuss advocacy strategies, and plan future actions.

  • Organizing and participating in meetings with elected officials and their staff.

Purpose: The committee serves as a bridge between ANCO and its institutional fellows, facilitating connections and promoting collaboration. We strive to:

  • Build a Local Fellow Network: Create a platform for fellows to connect, share experiences, and build lasting professional relationships within Northern California.
  • Engage with Fellows: Conduct quarterly meetings to provide a forum for discussion, feedback, and support for fellows.
  • Plan Fellow Events: Organize and execute engaging events throughout the year, designed to promote professional development, networking, and social interaction among fellows.
  • Enhance the Fellowship Experience: Contribute to a positive and enriching fellowship experience by addressing the needs and interests of our fellows.

The committee is comprised of dedicated ANCO members passionate about supporting the development of institutional fellows. To ensure the committee remains focused on the needs of those entering the field, eligibility is strictly limited to:

  • Current Fellows: Clinicians currently enrolled in an active fellowship program.

  • Early-Career Attendings: Clinicians who are within two years of having completed their fellowship.

Time Commitment: Committee members are expected to attend quarterly one-hour meetings and contribute to the planning and execution of fellow events throughout the year.
