ANCO Committees

Mission: The ANCO Advocacy Committee is dedicated to advancing the organization’s mission by actively engaging in legislative and policy initiatives that impact cancer care. We strive to be a proactive voice, advocating for policies that promote positive change and benefit the communities we serve.

Purpose:

• To identify and analyze relevant local, state, and federal legislation and policy proposals.
• To develop and implement advocacy strategies that align with ANCO’s strategic priorities.
• To collaborate with our legislative advocate to effectively communicate ANCO’s positions to policymakers and stakeholders.
• To educate and mobilize ANCO members and the broader community on key advocacy issues.
• To build and strengthen relationships with elected officials, government agencies, and partner organizations.

Activities:

• Quarterly meetings (1 hour) with our legislative advocate to review current legislative developments, discuss advocacy strategies, and plan future actions.
• Monitoring and analyzing legislative bills and policy proposals.
• Developing position papers, letters, and other advocacy materials.
• Organizing and participating in meetings with elected officials and their staff.
• Mobilizing ANCO members and the community to participate in advocacy efforts, such as contacting legislators, attending hearings, and participating in campaigns.
• Collaborating with other organizations and coalitions on shared advocacy goals.

• Collaboration: Work collaboratively with ANCO staff and other committees to achieve shared educational goals.

Meeting Schedule:

Purpose: The committee serves as a bridge between ANCO and its institutional fellows, facilitating connections and promoting collaboration. We strive to:

• Build a Local Fellow Network: Create a platform for fellows to connect, share experiences, and build lasting professional relationships within Northern California.
• Engage with Fellows: Conduct quarterly meetings to provide a forum for discussion, feedback, and support for fellows.
• Plan Fellow Events: Organize and execute engaging events throughout the year, designed to promote professional development, networking, and social interaction among fellows.
• Enhance the Fellowship Experience: Contribute to a positive and enriching fellowship experience by addressing the needs and interests of our fellows.
